What does a website redesign cost?

What a website redesign costs, what a redesign service should include, and how to change sites without losing the visitors and searches you have.

A redesign usually costs more than a new site of the same size, and for a good reason: a new site starts from nothing, while a redesign has something to lose. Your old pages have links pointing at them, bookmarks, and whatever they have earned in search. A redesign that throws that away can look better and bring fewer calls.

Ours is a flat price: a rebuild of the site you have is USD 1,800 once, against USD 1,500 for a new website. The USD 300 difference pays for the part a new site does not have: reading the old site, moving its content, and making sure every old address still works.

What a redesign service should include

Whoever you hire, ask whether the price covers each of these:

  • A look at what you have first. Which pages people actually reach, which ones bring enquiries, which ones nobody opens. That decides what is kept, merged or dropped, and it is cheaper than guessing.
  • Your content moved across: text and photos, rewritten where they need it and kept where they work.
  • Every old address kept working. Each old page either answers at its old address or sends visitors and search engines to its new home with a permanent redirect.
  • The new site checked before the switch, at a private address, while the old one stays online.
  • Your domain kept in your name. A redesign is no reason to hand it over.
  • What happens after launch: who hosts it, who updates it, what a change costs.

Redirects: the part that protects your traffic

Google's guidance on moving a site with URL changes (https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/site-move-with-url-changes) recommends permanent redirects such as 301 or 308 from each old address to its new one, kept "for as long as possible, generally at least 1 year". It also says to expect some temporary movement in rankings while Google recrawls the site. A redesign done with the redirects in place from the first minute keeps that movement small; one done without them starts over.

Ask any provider: "Will every page of my current site still answer, or redirect, the day the new one goes live?" If the answer is vague, the cost of the redesign is higher than the quote.

What pushes a redesign price up

  • Many pages, or pages that need rewriting rather than moving.
  • Features: online booking, payments, a customer login, a shop.
  • Getting content out of a closed platform that does not export it cleanly.
  • Photography, a new logo, or new copy for every page, which are separate work almost everywhere. We do not include photography or logo design, and say so before you commit.

When a new site is the better buy

If your current site is very small, very old, or brings almost no visitors, there may be little worth moving. Then a new website at USD 1,500 can be the cheaper honest answer. We tell you which one fits after reading your site.

How ours works

  1. We read your current site and your search data.
  2. We build the new one at a private address while the old one stays online. You see it on your phone and approve it.
  3. Your domain switches over in minutes, with the redirects in place from the first second.
  4. After launch, the monthly plan is USD 79 a month: hosting, an editing page of your own, security updates and small changes. A later redesign is quoted first, and the build fee is never charged twice.

The result is the same as a new build: a design around your business, written pages, a contact form to your email, structured data for your trade, privacy and accessibility pages.
